REFLECTIONS OF EL: IN SEARCH OF SELF

An excerpt from:
Chapter 25 - The Subway Ride -Lust

...As we were walking towards 46th Street, I could see that the Globe Theater was playing the sex-comedy Cry Uncle. I asked Regan if she was game to see this movie about a detective who gets into all kinds of trouble. She gave her silly chuckling laugh and said. “Why not?” We entered and found seats about in the middle of the auditorium. The movie was already in progress but that did not seem to matter. No, this was not one of those jerk-off theaters, but we still got looks from some guys because the subject matter of the movie drew a mostly male crowd. We sat quietly, laughed at times and basically enjoyed this movie and the just as graphic second feature that played with it for the next hour and a half.

As we left the theater, we both knew that Mr. Polite would make certain that she got home okay. But this mister had his mind in the gutter and I asked Regan if she was interested in seeing my apartment. She acted shocked that I had one. When we broke up, I was still living with my parents. I felt that she must have heard that I had my own place through her sister and Aaron, but who knows. I told her that a lot of things had changed and she agreed. We walked over to the local “C” train on 50th Street and took it up to 125th Street.

I’d grown pretty proud of my little apartment on 129th Street. Regan and I spoke for a while in the living room and she marveled at the paint choices and mirrored panels I had put up. Of course, when we were tired, the natural place to move to was the bedroom. It was pretty obvious that regardless of all our small talk, sparring and trying to make a good impression with each other, never completing the act was interfering with our conversations.
Regan borrowed a pair of my pajamas and we lay down for the night...
