Book Review - 4 out of 5 stars
To Valerie. I applaud you on another warm and heart-felt book. You not only delivered on your promise to continue your journey towards understanding this difficult part of your life but you have given a positive direction on how others who have a similar need might begin to heal. I would have preferred that the book was longer but I was happy to find that you included the letters from those that love you and your mother. Without love and support, none of us can make it through the day-to-day craziness that the world throws at us. I agree that a person cannot properly understand your plight unless they have gone through that kind of loss. My mother passed of complications from diabetes back in 1993. What she and I went through together still seems like yesterday but sharing my pain with others and the passage of time has helped to ease the pain. Continue to help others with what you have learned and you will receive blessing and understanding back ten-fold. Just as you show in your book, it all comes from love. Thank you for the experience.

Q and A
I recently attended a Talk and Q&A at the Morris Park Branch Library. Congratulations to Valerie Auguste Patin for a successful and well-received book event at the Morris Park Branch Library. She effectively reviewed her most recent book, Mom Me: Email 2 Heaven, concerning her dealings with her late mother's suffering and death from cancer and diabetes. In conclusion, Valerie emphasized that everyone (especially older individuals) needs get timely medical examinations in order to ensure good health.
It is difficult to transition smoothly to the happy moments shared together when the recent memories of their physical anguish and suffering still haunt and torment you. For many of us, these emotional demons are worst at night when you are alone with your nocturnal thoughts. This book is dedicated to her undying memory and incredible legacy. Contributions will be sent to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) in memory of Esther M. Auguste.

Dear Valerie. Your struggle through this difficult time of your life grabbed me from the very beginning. I moved painfully with you through your need to understand why innocence is never enough. Our only hope is to become creatures who give love and are loved. Take solace in the knowledge that you have been successful in this. As you remember the painful times, just imagine a world without the opportunity to possess so many beautiful memories. Those good times shine brightly between the lines of your wonderful work. Writing these pages release some of the sorry but they also prove that you were deeply loved. Thank you for the simplicity of your tears. Thank you so much for sharing this. Life and death are such selfish readers. I was disappointed that there was not more to read but we can only give what we can (and then a bit more). I'm looking forward to your next book. Mom Me... Soaring Through The Pain - Cancer and Diabetes: The 10-Year Journey About a year ago, the constant reminiscing that I was doing about my old high school, slowly evolved into a sci-fi novella, which I titled Castle on the Hill: Secrets. Prior to writing the story, I rolled up my sleeves and dove headlong into the school's history. (The process was so enjoyable, that I even built a website dedicated to the school and called it My Castle Treasures). Regardless of the fact that Castle on the Hill: Secrets was set in the year 2067, I made certain that the backstory was firmly rooted in fact so that the characters and situations could spring forth from real surroundings. It was always my intention to write a sequel to the mysteries of the Dimensional Arts High School and the time has finally arrived for me to get serious about it. This time around, I've decided to share my creative processes, which is why I've started this weekly blog. I've gone through a lot of variations but the best working title for the story, so far, is Beyond the Castle on the Hill. If anyone can suggest a better one, please let me know. The new story begins five years after the ending of the first book and there is now a crew of interesting new characters in addition to the regulars from the Castle. I think readers will be surprised (if not shocked) by the changes that have occurred in the lead character's relationships. Building BeyondAfter some sleepless nights, I've written the first four chapters. The re-writes have driven me crazy but the characters and I have survived (so far). It's been really tough "killing off some of my babies" but I'm pleasantly pleased with the finished product (for now, anyway). Besides the basic premise, which is written next to the video below, the general storyline involves immortality, racial prejudice and an extreme case of neighborhood gentrification. That's all that I can share on these subjects for now. All comments or suggestions are welcome. See you in about a week. Basic premise: Dora and Ethan have been forced to move the immortality experiments to an orbiting platform high above the earth. The effects of the blue mist continue to change them both but they must return to earth because innocent people are purposely being exposed. The society called Waters of Eternal Life and Liberty is increasing in followers but its members are unaware of the drastic side effects that accompany their newly prolonged lives. Can the couple find a way to turn back the hands of time or is it already too late? THE HUNTED Book

Stevie and her gifted son have returned in this sequel to Chrissy Lessey’s “The Coven.” The powerful witch’s amulet has been stolen and is now in the hands of someone who seeks to destroy the peaceful community. Is there enough time for young Stevie to learn how powerful she really is?
Newly single mother Stevie Lewis divides her time between raising Charlie, running a store with her best friend, and avoiding the meetings of her mother’s Beaufort Historic Society. Although her life has its challenges, it’s altogether average. Just the way she likes it. When Vanessa, a ruthless dark witch, launches an attack against young Charlie, Stevie’s simple life derails, and her long-dormant powers awaken. A 300-year-old secret is exposed, revealing her destiny to one day rule the clandestine community of witches who hide in plain sight. Now she must master her own magical powers before it’s too late. Because Vanessa’s on the warpath, and only Stevie can stop her. The Hunted, the second book to the Crystal Coast Series is a well-written, fast-paced story of modern day witches filled with revenge, unexpected friendships, and exciting surprises around every turn. Translate Languages
Much like the sub-dermal transponder of Castle on the Hill: Secrets, which enables its users to speak to one another without cell phones, wearable technology has now been invented that can translate languages.
A nifty new wearable technology could soon make conversing with people from other cultures a much easier affair, with New York City-based startup Waverly Labs about to release what they're claiming is the world's first 'smart' earpiece that translates between users speaking different languages. Dubbed the Pilot, the earpiece is shaped much like a regular earbud, but comes without any wires or cables. It sits in your ear, and even without an internet connection – pretty handy, especially for people traveling overseas – it translates words being spoken to you in another language on the fly. You can get an idea of what the process looks like in the promo video In other words, it's pretty much the exact technological equivalent of the Babel fish from Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy – except it's sadly limited to Earth-based languages and won't be able to translate any alien words for you.

11-22-63 by Stephen King is an amazing book. In spite of its length (866 pages), King’s diverse plot is maintained by the strength of the main character, Kyle.
The book is a time-travel story about Kyle being persuaded to find his way back to the year 1958. Once there, his goal is to establish himself, collect information and then do everything in his power to prevent John F. Kennedy from being assassinated on November 22, 1963. Of course, all instances of time-travel must be subject to things changing. The number of “strings” involved could either cause differences by a “residue” effect or cause things to be recognized as familiar because of a sense of “harmony.” This may sound a bit confusing but King has set up a world where the reader is comfortable slipping in and out of time where these terms and many others are commonplace. As years roll by, there will always be the possibility of falling in love. When a tender and very real interaction develops between Kyle and a teacher he meets named Sadie, I will only say that because of my own personal experiences, I was eventually brought to tears. To me, this love story deeply added to the mix and also places the book under the romance novel category. Because the book was so very long, I was immensely curious about how King would bring the story to a close. The conclusion was so immensely satisfying that as soon as I finished, I began to make phone calls to recommend that friends give the book a read as soon as possible. I definitely give 11-22-63 five out of five stars. 11 22 63![]()
I just finished reading Ivy's Envy (Want & Decay Book 1) by Latashia Figueroa and gave it
5 out of 5 stars. The author innocently grabs your attention from the very beginning and then moves you along with realistic characters on this emotional rollercoaster of lust and envy. I could not put this book down until I was finished. Look out Stephen King, you've got competition. I'm anxiously waiting to read book 2. A disturbingly Great Find

When I began my reading frenzy, I discovered Stephen King's first published book called "Carrie." Even when his other books were made available, I always remembered and admired his first. Also in 1976, Barry Manilow released a song called "Weekend in New England." Every time I heard the whimsical lyrics and its moving orchestration, I was reminded of the movie. Those thoughts led me to eventually make this video. "Sue's Hope" is a tribute to the collaboration that occurred between these two men, even though they were unaware of it.
Thank you Stephen and Barry.
Sue's Hope - Carrie
1976 Video
Last night, 10/22/15, my dear daughter surprised me with movie tickets to see the film Carrie. We saw the flick at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Yonkers, NY.
She knew that Carrie continues to be my favorite horror movie of all time, and I was more than happy to see it once again. The scary movie presented to me was the 1976 version, based on the book by Stephen King, directed by Brian De Palmer, with Carrie's role played by Sissy Spacek.
CREEPY CARRIEMovie Poster Advertisement in 1976There are some marked differences between the book and the film, but De Palmer effectively captured the flavor of total confusion one feels during adolescence. Add the tastefully done nude scenes, Carrie's growing telekinetic powers, and of course, the horror sequences, and you have a well-conceived plan to lure you in and then scare your pants off.It was noticeable that some of the "teenagers" were slightly on the older side, but that was the only downside of the movie. The characters played by Piper Laurie, John Travolta, William Katt, and Amy Irving are well worth mentioning. Sissy Spacek's excellent rendition of the Carrie character (she is such a good actress) combined with the film's serene and haunting soundtrack, pulls you into the film's innocence and eventual tragedy.
The photography is hazy, and the music is serene and tranquil. To me, the movie was winding down, as Sue was giving her tribute to Carrie. As Sue knelt, I was putting my arm in my jacket. My eyes were still on the screen as I waited for the credits to scroll down. Sue was about to place the bouquet on the ground when Carrie's bloody hand reached up from between the rocks and grabbed Sue's wrist. I half stood up and screamed, "Nooooo!!" âSoon after this, Sue woke, and the dream (and the movie) ended.
